JAWWAAD
Myth & Logic
This fall, Sonic Transmissions Records presents Myth & Logic: TOXIC, the long-awaited solo debut from Houston multidisciplinary artist, composer, trumpeter, vocalist, and producer Jawwaad Taylor (J^WW^^D).
Blending free jazz, experimental hip hop, spoken word, electronics, and improvisation, TOXIC is a deeply personal work that reflects Taylor's ongoing exploration of music as a vehicle for healing, community, and transformation. The project grew out of his wider Myth & Logic artistic practice, which combines sound, visual art, performance, and social engagement, inspired in part by his work surrounding sickle cell disease and the therapeutic potential of vibration and sound.
Recorded between Houston and Trondheim, the album features an exceptional cast of collaborators, including James Brandon Lewis, Kam Franklin, Khari Lucas, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Hans Hulbækmo, Peder Overvik Stuberg, and Emil Bø.
Taylor has long been a vital presence in Houston's creative music community. He is a funding-member of The Young Mothers and was previously part of the acclaimed experimental hip hop collective Shape of Broad Minds, the groundbreaking project led by Jneiro Jarel, whose collaborators have included MF DOOM. Most recently, Taylor collaborated with acclaimed artist Carrie Mae Weems and trombonist/composer Craig Harris on The Cool Blue Wind, a major installation commissioned for the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
Myth & Logic: TOXIC introduces a singular new voice whose work connects the worlds of avant-jazz, progressive hip hop, contemporary art, and community-based practice.
