Formed in 2021 by pianist and composer Jonas Cambien, Maca Conu has quickly established itself as a distinctive force in Oslo’s adventurous jazz scene. Popular Misconceptions is the band’s second album and their first release on Sonic Transmissions Records, the Oslo-based label founded by bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten.

The album features Cambien alongside Signe Emmeluth (alto & tenor saxophones), Guro Kvåle (trombone), Håker Flaten (double bass), and Andreas Wildhagen (drums). Following their acclaimed self-titled debut on Clean Feed, the new album presents a more fully developed and confident group sound.

Across seven original tracks, Maca Conu combines free jazz, improvisation, groove and unconventional hooks, balancing explosive intensity with playful, accessible ideas. Popular Misconceptions is adventurous without being inaccessible, offering a strong entry point for listeners interested in contemporary European jazz, free improvisation and experimental music.
