Hytta Trio
Vindespel
Norwegian Hytta Trio makes their album debut with the release Vindespel (Twining Tunes), where the hardanger fiddle music’s inner tonal tales meet the light of day. With Hytta’s Hardanger fiddle, Skaansar’s bass, and Ibsen Thorsrud’s rich instrumentation of tin foil, glockenspiel, and bass drum, the trio creates music with ample room for spontaneous ideas in their own creative expression. Vindespel is like a meandering river flowing between danceable circular tunes and slow, contemplative melodies.
The musicians in Trio Hytta began playing together in 2018, when they composed and performed music for a theater production. Since then, they have been exploring Norwegian traditional music, searching for material and motifs to inspire new music with room for improvisation.
The foundation of their work lies in Hytta’s rich Hardanger fiddle tradition from Telemark. However, the trio also draws inspiration and ideas from other folk music traditions, while Skaansar and Ibsen Thorsrud’s backgrounds in jazz and improvisational music add unique colors to the group’s distinctive sound.
HYTTA departs from the streets and bustling crowds, turning to dreams and imaginary landscapes. Here are dark, dense forests to weave in and out of, as well as open, spacious fields for vistas and clarity. The music reflects this duality as it wanders through forests and open spaces.
